Choosing a High School Graduation Path

In the initial two years of high school, it’s essential for students to strengthen their knowledge and skills from earlier grades. All 9th and 10th grade students will engage in core academic classes to make progress towards earning a diploma. After completing their 10th grade year, students have the exciting option to pursue either the Jump Start TOPS Tech Pathway or the TOPS University Pathway, and they even have the choice to explore both pathways. Decisions regarding which pathway to follow are made with the support of counseling and guidance, based on the student’s interests, abilities, and aspirations.

TOPS University Pathway

The Louisiana TOPS University Pathway is a state-funded scholarship program designed to assist eligible high school graduates in pursuing higher education at a Louisiana public college or university. To qualify, students must meet specific academic requirements during high school, which typically include maintaining a minimum GPA, achieving certain standardized test scores (e.g., ACT or SAT), and completing a specific number of core academic courses. If students meet the eligibility criteria and enroll in an eligible Louisiana public college or university, the TOPS scholarship will cover a portion of their tuition and mandatory fees. This program aims to make higher education more accessible and affordable for Louisiana students, encouraging them to pursue their academic goals and contribute to the state’s workforce and economy.

Jump Start Pathway

Jump Start is a cutting-edge career and technical education (CTE) program in Louisiana, designed to provide high school students an unique opportunity to prepare for their future career while still in school. It’s an elective path, which means you can choose to be part of this program if you’re interested. Jump Start will equip students with essential skills and knowledge, setting them up for success as they transition into adulthood and continue their education after high school. Moreover, the program offers students the chance to earn valuable certifications in high-demand job sectors. Think of it as a head start on your career! The best part is that schools give Jump Start the same recognition as top academic achievements, making it a fantastic chance for students to excel and have a bright and promising future ahead.
